Knovel Announces Partnership with ASM International to Enhance Engineering References

Knovel has entered into a partnership with ASM International, The Materials Information Society, to offer expanded materials properties, selection, and processing information.

Materials covered range from metals and alloys through plastics and ceramics. This new offering on Knovel will be highly interactive and will feature a myriad of ASM content, including 25 ASM Handbook volumes and atlases of fatigue curves and stress-strain curves.

SIAA CODiE Awards - In January, members of the SIIA selected Knovel for the 2010 CODiE award for Best Online Science or Technology Service within the content category. The award recognizes the online service that best conveys information to scientific or technology professionals.

Rebuilding the Lake Champlain Bridge

Do you know that 25% of the nearly 600,000 bridges in the United States have structural problems or outdated design? The American Society of Civil Engineers has estimated that the US government needs to spend $1.6 trillion over the next 5 years to fix our aging, dilapidated infrastructure.

The Lake Champlain Bridge was recently demolished due to severe structural deterioration and unsafe conditions. Because of the high unplanned cost and concern for the safety of many bridges throughout the United States with similar design, the replacement of Lake Champlain Bridge has received national attention. Knovel analyzes the cause of problems in the Lake Champlain Bridge and suggests how these problems could be addressed in the New Bridge.
