Productivity Boost

The 489 ASME members who participated in the survey confirmed the impact of improved reference data searches on productivity:

Sixty five percent said the amount of time they would need to complete their work would increase by 20 percent or more if they didn’t have eLibrary access. A full 80 percent said their work time would increase more than 10 percent.

When it came to the value of Knovel as an ASME membership benefit, responses were consistently positive. Here are some of the highlights:

• 83 percent of the respondents found the ASME eLibrary to be an excellent or good ASME member benefit
• 90 percent agreed that it was a useful professional development tool
• 67 percent used the eLibrary at least once a month
• 30 percent used it at least once a week
  

Other interesting survey findings concerned the most common software tools used by mechanical engineers. In addition to Knovel, the top five products used were Excel, AutoCad, Mathcad, Solidworks and Pro-E. Excel counting for over a third of the citations, and this is most likely one of the reasons why Knovel increases productivity, as Knovel’s results are easily exported into engineers other workflow applications.

In sum, respondents valued Knovel as a productivity tool, and considered ASME’s eLibrary it to be an important and satisfying ASME membership benefit.
